Alcohol Countermeasure Systems Corp is taking quick and positive action for children’s safety by offering to install two alcohol interlock devices in school busses at no cost.
Toronto, May 2nd, 2014 – Alcohol Countermeasure Systems Corp (ACS) announced it will provide and install two alcohol interlock devices for a school bus fleet operator to ensure that children have a safe journey.
There have been several recent incidents involving drivers who have been drinking alcohol and operating busses with children on board. Within days of one another this past month, two vehicles carrying school children in Canada were reported swerving dangerously on the roads – and it turned out that both drivers had been drinking. The most recent incident: Is your child safe when riding in a school bus?
ACS alcohol interlocks can easily prevent these dangerous situations.
John Colton, Director of Commercial Interlocks commented “One incident is too many and interlocks bring the chances of starting a vehicle after drinking to zero. Why do we always wait for a terrible accident to happen before we take corrective measures”?
Due to the frequency of drinking-related driving issues, countries like France and Finland have legislation that mandates that alcohol interlocks be installed in all school transportation vehicles. Thousands of school busses and other forms of student transportation are equipped.
While it may not yet be required by law in Canada, ACS hopes that fleet operators will see the value in providing the safest means of passage for our most vulnerable travellers, and that they begin to install alcohol interlocks in all of their vehicles. ACS believes that by donating these two interlocks, we are taking a proactive step to ensure the safety of children on busses in Canada.
