Alcohol Countermeasure Systems (ACS), a global leader in the development and manufacturer of alcohol interlocks and breath alcohol testers to prevent impaired driving, announces its accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Metrology Laboratory Quality Management Systems and ISO 17034:2016 for production of Certified Reference Materials for Forensic Laboratories, reinforcing ACS core values of continual improvement and commitment to leadership in the field of metrology.
This accreditation, certified by The American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) was achieved through the successful demonstration of technical competence and the ability to produce precise and accurate calibration of test and measurement equipment, reference materials and products, including breath alcohol testers.
“Alcohol Reference Solutions (ARS) are widely used in forensic and toxicology applications for type approval and periodic verification of evidential breath analyzerrs. Since breath alcohol test results can result in legal implications, the laboratory reference calibration process must be precise and reliable,” states Felix J.E. Comeau, Chairman and CEO–Alcohol Countermeasure Systems (ACS).
The accuracy and uncertainty associated with ARS are important contributors to the accuracy and associated uncertainty of breath alcohol test results. It is therefore imperative that the uncertainty of the reference materials be within defined margins and that the certified concentration is accurate and completely traceable to international units of measure.
According to Mr. Comeau, “This is a great milestone for ACS, reinforcing our focus on quality and continuous improvement in all aspects of our operations. This accreditation additionally demonstrates our commitment to meeting industry best practices and in achieving the highest ethical standards and service excellence to meet our customers’ needs.”
ISO 17025 is the leading international accepted standard for calibration and testing laboratories.
ISO 17034:2016 is a revision of ISO Guide 34:2009. Obtaining ISO 17034:2016 shows ACS also complies with ISO Guide 30:2015, ISO Guide 31:2015, and ISO Guide 35:2006.
These accreditations complement other ACS certifications, including ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
